Carbon neutral buildings will be in high demand in the next 10-15 years due to the fact that large Russian and international companies set goals to achieve carbon neutrality in various periods from 2025 to 2060.

There is a LEED Carbon Zero certification program that certifies carbon neutral buildings.

To do this, the building must pass the basic LEED certification and prove its carbon neutrality during the 1st year of operation by:

– Use of renewable energy sources

-Compensation of greenhouse gas emissions (offsetting)

– Transfer of building workers to alternative transport and compensation of emissions from the use of transport

1. Buy electricity from renewable sources. Enter the wholesale electricity market or buy iREC certificates.
2. Produce thermal energy yourself:

• Extend the functions of the refrigeration center to a heat supply center. At positive temperatures, generate heat using air source heat pumps.
• At negative temperatures, produce heat from electricity using an electric boiler at night, when the electricity tariff is comparable to the heat tariff. Store thermal energy in a special thermal storage (tank) and use it during the daytime. Heating from CHP as a backup source

1. Maximize the energy efficiency of building envelopes:

• Reduce the thermal conductivity of the glazing to 0.8 W/(m².K)
• Reduce the area of ​​translucent structures to 40% of the facade area

2. Use active recuperation in supply and exhaust ventilation systems based on rotary heat exchangers and built-in heat pumps.

3. Use solar panels built into the facade of the building on the south side of the facades to generate electricity for the building.
